Toy Drive Help - Every toy will bring JOY to a child in our community.
This Christmas, we are hosting a toy drive together with many other great organizations across our city. Across many faith traditions, including Judaism and Christianity, as well as many cultures, “giving” is an integral part of this season. And? Approaching this selfless act of gift-giving with a little preparation and the right mindset can do wonders for the child who will receive the toy as well as you, the cheerful giver!
1) Be intentional about this act of kindness. Check out some ideas ahead of time and choose the age range of the child for whom you are shopping.
2) Take a few moments to consider the child who will receive your gift. Grab a quiet moment or two and simply think on this moment of giving. Take a few deep breaths and “lift” or just “think” of the child. If you would like, perhaps say something such as this: “Divine Spirit, I lift to you the act of kindness that I am doing, and I lift to you the child who will receive this kindness. Be with the child and care for them this holiday. May this gift bring them joy.”
3) Then, do a little intentional shopping (review the list for ideas) and drop the toy off to one of our church campuses across Long Beach. Check out our four locations here.
Below are some Pro-Tips for toy shopping this season.
** Be sure that all toy donations are new and unwrapped. That way your thoughtful gift can get to just the right kiddo!
Newborn to 3 years: educational toy, Sesame Street toys, dolls, cars, trucks (Tonka type)
4 to 7 years: Duplo or other building kits, dress-up kits, board games (check the box for “recommended age”), sports equipment
8 to 12 years: craft/jewelry kits, LEGO sets
13 to 16 years: local clothing/food gift cards (ie., Target, Wal-Mart, Old Navy, Starbucks, In-n-Out, etc.), age-appropriate items
All ages: soccer balls, footballs, basketballs (Nerf or other brand is great for smaller spaces or young children)
May your season be one of joy and may you experience kindness as you practice an act of giving to another person.
