A Movement for Good

Community - Justice - Spirituality - Service

That's "Being the church." It's different from "Going to church."

What is "Being the Church Long Beach?"

We are a group of four collaborative Long Beach churches. While going to church is still important to us, we've opened our doors wider - to welcome you in AND to let the spirit out. Maybe we're spirit wranglers?

What we do starts with experience: yours, ours, each other's. What do we mean by "each other?" It's often people who have felt "other" within the traditional church community.

Join us

  • What if church is a verb, not a noun?

  • What if what we do is more important than what we say?

  • What if faith shifts and shimmers like the sun through stained-glass ... each one of us a window reflecting our colors of faith into the world?

Back to School Supply Drive

Now through August More info: (e: Melinda@beingthechurchlb.org)

Across Long Beach, Being the Church is hosting a school supplies drive.  All donations will go to support the Sherman Indian High School where we have an ongoing connection through our Cal-Pac UMC Conference.  Please bring all donations to your local church office on Sunday mornings, or during weekday business hours.  We will also receive donations at the Summer E. Inn dinner church and at Back to School Waffle church (Aug. 25).

Sherman Indian High School is one of four Boarding Schools still under the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Office of Indian Education. Started as Perris Indian School, 1892, Perris, Ca., and later moved to Riverside in 1903, and renamed Sherman Institute. Sherman Indian High School has undergone many changes, and unlike former Boarding Schools whose focus was assimilation by eliminating “The Indian,” the school now offers a balanced program that seeks to assure a quality education to students from many tribes, along with cultural awareness and inclusion.
